I have yet another book club baby shower this Saturday (that makes three in four weeks!). I finished her blanket earlier this week, which I still need to photograph - I'll try to post it tomorrow.
Tonight I started on the burp cloths and decided to give a bib a try. It turned out great! I am really happy about it because it is still kind of hard for me to go around corners, but I am improving with every attempt. I used another simple pattern that my mom sent me. Both cute and functional - it has a velcro closure for an easy on-and-off and the backside is a terrycloth fabric for easy clean-up. I think the giraffe print is fun.

Happy Birthday Joshua!
My nephew, Joshua, turned 4 today. I sent him a box of "J" cookies to honor the day, frosted with my new handy dandy decorating kit. If you live in New York City and love to bake, run, not walk to NY Cake and & Baking Distributer.
I love you, Josh!

The Year of the Golden Pig
Today I went to a baby shower for one of the girls in my bookclub. As one of the activities, we put together a time capsule for the baby to open up years down the road. We were all asked to bring something relating to the year 2007. Since it was just the Chinese Lunar New Year this past week, I made a foam fortune cookie. The "fortune" describes what it means to be born in the Year of the Golden Pig.
I had a hard time getting the picture to come out clearly, but it says:
2007 - The Year of the Golden Pig
Babies born in the 'year of the golden pig' are believed to have good fortune and will lead a comfortable and wealthy life.
Sounds good to me! Apparently, the year of the golden pig comes around every 60 years and many people really believe that babies born this year will be especially fortunate. As a result, China is experiencing a baby boom.
I am really pleased with my fortune cookie. For her present, I brought the grey cardigan and ribbon hat I made earlier this year and a couple of burp cloths.

Happy Birthday Jared
Jared turned 27 today, which seems old to me. Not old for any regular person, but old for a person that I would be married to. It was a really fun birthday though. So fun, in fact, I decided to use lots of exclamation points in this post. Here is a photo journal of his very special day:

More burp cloths
I went a little burp cloth crazy this week. I wanted to do a whole bunch at once so I could have a little stockpile for upcoming baby showers. In theory, it was a good idea, and I did make quite a few, but my hands were really aching by the end of the night from all the clipping. Next time I will take my mom's advice and spread it out.

lamb blanket
Today was the first of 4 baby showers that I will attend in the next 6 weeks. I gave this green lamb blanket to fellow book-clubber Alicia along with some burp cloths that I'll post on tomorrow. I used the basket weave stitch again for this blanket. It turned out to be quite thick, but I think it will be great to use in the stroller to protect against the freezing NYC weather.

ribbon hat
I crocheted this ribbon hat on my return flight from St. Louis. It matches the gray cardigan I made last month. I think it will look really sweet on a baby girl.

basket weave scarf
I went on a business trip this weekend to St. Louis, Missouri. It was an interesting conference and I'm glad I went, but it was especially convenient because my family lives there. I like to keep myself occupied on the plane, so on the flight there I made my mom a scarf for her birthday. Since one of her hobbies is weaving baskets, I used a basket weave stitch and love the way the fabric turned out.
I also finished a project on the return trip, but I'll save that post for tomorrow.
